COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Vietnam War hero Clebe McClary will headline the Scouting America Patron Breakfast on March 4 at Wyndham Executive Center (2200 Interstate 70 Drive SW). Breakfast starts at 7:10 a.m. with a program at 7:30 a.m., and registration is required for the free event supporting local scouting programs.  Columbia Daily Tribune
  • On Wednesday night, Boone County firefighters rescued two horses trapped in a muddy lagoon near Harrisburg at the 8400 block of Gray Road. The horses received treatment from veterinarians until about 3 a.m. (they are now recovering on antibiotics), which shows the benefit of large animal rescue training.  ABC 17
  • The Fruit Truck will bring fresh, hand-picked strawberries to Columbia residents Monday starting at 3:30 p.m. at Academy Sports Outdoors parking lot (2551 Trimble Road), along with pecans and honey available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Inside Columbia

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Peking Acrobats will perform daring acrobatics on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Missouri Theatre, showcasing trick-cycling, tumbling and gymnastics with tickets costing $47 to $63.  Inside Columbia

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Columbia Regional Airport had its best year in 2025 with 242,167 passengers + a 17% increase from 2024. It announced more flights to Chicago, Dallas, Charlotte, and Florida, will add 600 parking spaces soon, and 300,000 seats are scheduled to depart in 2026.  ABC 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • CoMo Preservation and the University will co-sponsor a talk on Read Hall (the first women’s dormitory) at Memorial Student Union (Room N204) on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The free event will explore its history, legacy, and impact on future women’s spaces on campus.  Inside Columbia
  • Columbia Independent School hosts a college fair with 18 universities from nine states — local students can meet representatives to learn about college options aligned with their interests.  Columbia Missourian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Boone County Joint Communications collected 1,925 responses from surveys on 911/311 call satisfaction—reporting a 93% positive rate since the survey launched on Nov. 19. Feedback is shared with dispatchers to adjust call practices and trigger wellness checks on challenging calls.  ABC 17
  • MoDOT announced that North Outer Road 70 will be closed for 10 months starting March 9 for I-70 bridge replacement over Cedar Creek, shifting traffic as new structures are built with completion set for January. Signs will alert drivers to alternate routes.  KOMU 8
  • City of Columbia Utilities announced it will resume disconnections soon as warm weather approaches; customers will not be disconnected when forecasts predict temperatures below 32 degrees or above 95 degrees, and roughly 1,572 accounts are pending for nonpayment.  ABC 17

HEALTH NEWS

  • MU researcher Dr. Wenjun Ma is leading a three-year study to develop a new vaccine for avian flu in chickens and turkeys, backed by a $1.9 million Department of Agriculture grant (APHIS). His work could change how farmers manage outbreaks and protect the food chain as tests continue through 2029.  KRCG
