- ➤ A malfunctioning furnace triggered smoke detectors in a Hallsville home early Monday morning, prompting Boone County Fire Protection District to send 12 firefighters, two engines, two tanks and an ambulance to Edgewood Drive. Firefighters determined the issue was a faulty furnace — no injuries were reported. KOMU 8
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ After the fatal crash that claimed the life of a 9-year-old boy while biking on the Katy Trail in July 2025, Callaway County has installed new 20 mph signs at County Road 391 (near the trail crossing) and plans to complete all nine signs by the end of February. KOMU 8
- ➤ Firefighters from the Boone County Fire Protection District responded on Saturday night to a house fire on East Steiner Glen Drive in Settlers Ridge, rescuing a dog while residents safely evacuated after a smoke alarm alerted them. KRCG

- ➤ The Boone County Historical Society has appointed additional trustees & chairs to its Board of Directors and Endowment Trust Board to strengthen its leadership in preserving local history. Columbia Missourian
- ➤ Two Columbia composers were honored in the Missouri Composers Project, with works from a Rock Bridge junior and a Hickman orchestra director scheduled for performance on March 8 (showcasing local talent). Columbia Missourian
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Adroit Studios, a game design space on the University of Missouri campus, develops learning games for topics from science to business — it will host its 10th Game Jam starting Friday, Feb. 20 at Reflector in 201 Townsend Hall where teams have 48 hours to design games for cash prizes. - ➤ Missouri S&T and Mizzou School of Medicine have launched a Physician Engineers Pre-Admission Program that accepts applications until May 8 from engineering students (second-semester sophomores). - ➤ A section of Park Avenue between North Providence Road and North Fifth Street will close from Thursday, Feb. 19 to Feb. 27 for water line and concrete work on the East Park Avenue Apartments project. Drivers must follow detour signs to East Ash Street while one sidewalk remains open. KOMU 8
- ➤ The City Council approved revised plans for Douglass Park today and introduced ordinances regulating gambling machines, feral cat colonies & alcohol sales during the World Cup. The measures are designed to guide park management and local enforcement in the coming period. Columbia Missourian
