COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Kitchen Grill & Games is a new community hotspot with indoor and outdoor pickleball courts (plus an ice rink and restaurant) that draws all ages for business meetings, games, and family gatherings; the versatile venue, located between Columbia and Ashland, has been in operation since January 2025.  COMO Magazine
  • Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a volunteer run group that delivers new twin sized beds and bedding to Columbia children in need. The nonprofit, started by Community United Methodist Church in March 2024, hosts seven bed building days yearly to build and deliver beds shortly after applications are received.  COMO Magazine
  • City officials will ask for public input on converting a 2.5-mile stretch along Paris Road (from Rogers Street to East Brown Station Road) into a public trail using railbanking as seen at Katy Trail State Park. An open house will be held on Feb. 12 at City Hall.  ABC 17

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Ameren Missouri has begun upgrading the natural gas infrastructure in Columbia's East Campus starting Feb. 2 (using modern polyethylene and trenchless technology in three phases through the fall). The project coordinates with MDOT, the city, and the University to manage traffic and brief service interruptions.  KOMU 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • MoDOT will repair potholes on I-70 east of Columbia during intermittent lane closures from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily until Friday + drivers are advised to slow down and buckle up.  KOMU 8
  • A power outage disrupted Columbia Regional Airport operations Tuesday as power loss in southern Boone County cut services + online flight updates. Crews restored power by 1:40 p.m. after outages began at noon, affecting about 16 members south of Ashland as shown by Boone Electric’s map.  ABC 17

HEALTH NEWS

  • The fire department began carrying EpiPens on every ladder truck in January to treat severe allergic reactions quickly, and it will launch a paramedic pilot program in March at Stations 2 and 5 with city-funded equipment & training to enhance on-scene care.  ABC 17

  • The Mizzou women will play Arkansas on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Fayetteville—Coach Kellie Harper said the team is getting ready for the contest.  ABC 17
