  • Kenneth Freeman and Missouri Jobs with Justice were honored at a local diversity awards event for promoting diverse communities. The ceremony celebrated their commitment to inclusion (reflecting the city's strong local efforts) in building a more welcoming community.  Columbia Missourian

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire broke out on the roof of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Bernadette Drive in Columbia after an electrical malfunction, with fire crews arriving at 2:56 p.m. No injuries were reported as school ended safely and damage was confined to the building's exterior.  ABC 17

CULTURE NEWS

  • After receiving hostile phone calls ahead of its upcoming drag show, First Baptist Church will be surrounded by a rainbow wall assembled by local supporters Saturday.  Columbia Missourian

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Stephens College evacuated students from Searcy Hall (and nearby Prunty Hall) after a gas leak was detected; temporary housing was arranged while officials investigate the situation.  Columbia Missourian

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is reviewing Columbia’s updated stormwater ordinance that now calls out human waste from encampment activities near waterways. City and Boone County provided revised timelines for adopting the change as part of the MS4 permit renewal, with a meeting planned soon.  KOMU 8

HEALTH NEWS

  • Following weekend winter weather, the American Red Cross canceled several blood drives including one at Mizzou, and it urges eligible donors in Columbia to schedule appointments online as the state battles an ongoing blood shortage.  KOMU 8

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Alpine Shop is hosting a free after-hours hiking clinic Saturday at 5:30 p.m. to help locals prepare for spring hikes at its store; participants can receive pack fittings, gear checks, complimentary beer and seltzer, and a 15% discount on select items.  Inside Columbia
