COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau launched the Kick it in CoMo campaign to welcome World Cup visitors by providing a dedicated webpage, event updates, and local business support (including an Adopt-a-Team program and a webinar series that will start in late February).  Columbia Daily Tribune
  • Advocates warn that unhoused residents are at high risk of trafficking, a threat that can occur in any neighborhood. The Stop Human Trafficking Coalition of Central Missouri will host an open house on Tuesday, Jan. 27 to help residents learn key signs and available resources.  KRCG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UMKC expanded its physician assistant program to Columbia to fill rural health gaps. Eight students began on Jan. 12 at the University of Missouri branch, and the program will grow to 20 students by 2028.  Columbia Missourian

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A rare, dazzling comet may appear in April over Boone County. NASA says the comet will stand out more after the new moon on Apr. 17 — when moonlight is minimal.  Columbia Missourian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Columbia 2025 Community Survey, commissioned by ETC Institute and presented to City Council Tuesday afternoon, found residents rated the city 69.6% as a good place to work — notably above the national average — while safety ratings and waste services lagged.  KOMU 8
  • The City of Columbia is hosting a Community Classroom session today from noon to 1 p.m. at City Hall for its CARE youth jobs program — which gives teens paid work experience at local businesses while applications remain open until March 8.  Columbia Daily Tribune

HEALTH NEWS

  • SSM Health and UnitedHealthcare signed a multi-year insurance deal Tuesday to keep over 140,000 patients in-network across Missouri. The agreement covers both commercial and Medicaid plans so patients can continue receiving care from SSM Health providers.  KRCG
