COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Room at the Inn fills its 110 beds nightly this winter, and manager John Trapp noted extra floor space was used when more than 110 people arrived. The shelter is now managed by the Voluntary Action Center (since earlier this year) and plans to increase volunteer support.  KOMU 8
  • Columbia Parks and Recreation will hold its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Candlelight Walk and Memorial Celebration today at 6:30 p.m. at the Armory Sports Center (701 East Ash Street) before moving to St. Luke United Methodist Church at 7 p.m.  ABC 17

CULTURE NEWS

  • Grammy-nominated Alarm Will Sound will perform in Columbia with MU professors Stefan Freund and Bill Kalinkos (key figures in Mizzou’s music program) in an upcoming event set to showcase their musical expertise.  Columbia Missourian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Missouri Department of Conservation extended the thermal coyote hunting season to run Jan. 1 to Sept. 30 so hunters may use artificial light, night vision and thermal imagery — daytime hunts are restricted from April 1 until turkey season begins on April 10.  KOMU 8
  • Columbia City Council will consider Ashford Place, a housing project proposing 77 triplex buildings on 24 acres off East Broadway near the Brooks subdivision. The meeting will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. (in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday) as residents plan to voice traffic safety concerns.  ABC 17
