EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ MACC has opened applications for its new aviation commercial pilot program set for fall 2026, accepting applications until April 20. The course includes two years of study & flight training at Columbia Regional Airport, and graduates will earn an Associate of Applied Science plus several FAA certifications. KOMU 8
- ➤ State Fair Community College was awarded a $75K grant by the U.S. Department of Transportation to remove tuition barriers for veterans and their families at its Commercial Driving Academy in Columbia. The grant will also support advanced safety training — efforts to prepare more qualified drivers. KOMU 8
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Commission approved tax breaks for the upcoming Amazon data center last week, with Presiding Commissioner Ryan Poston stating the move is expected to generate new construction, tech jobs & support local services although residents at recent meetings raised environmental concerns. - ➤ Physicians at MU Health Care report that this year’s flu season is marked by increased gastrointestinal symptoms (vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain) and a later start than usual; cases have peaked in Columbia and patients with dehydration or severe symptoms should seek prompt care. KOMU 8
