About this event
Our November meeting will be held at the Animal Sciences building. Chris Starbuck will present a brief overview of some native plants that are fairly adaptable and easy to grow and which might be planted to provide season-long nectar and pollen to both native and honeybees. Images will be presented documenting pollination activity of both native and honey bees throughout the season. A handout will be provided listing the plants covered in the presentation in order of approximate bloom time.
Chris Starbuck retired from the MU Division of Plant Science in 2012 after 33 years of service, including Teaching, Research and Extension focusing on woody ornamental plants. In recent years he has collaborated with Mike Chippendale on Osher presentations related to plantings that can help support organisms (including bees) in ecosystems degraded by urbanization and climate change.
Additionally, we will hear from advisory member Clay Stem about the recent MSBA conference.
Also, please bring your favorite honey themed dessert to share with the members!
We will also discuss what's going on in your hives and activities you can be doing to prepare for winter.
